I'm currently working one day a week as the Content Coordinator for Into Games.
When I was first looking to start my career in games, I got into contact with a member of the team who helped me find my way. Thanks to them, I found GDL and it's a really nice full circle moment to be working for them!
Newsletter
Every two weeks, I assemble the Into Games newsletter. This has been a great way for me to stay up to date with everything that we do, as well as ensuring that I know what's happening in the games industry. I collect junior job roles to share with our subscribers, advertise our resources and upcoming events, and showcase the talents of our community by picking some of their work to highlight.
What's Next?
Social Media
Every week, I schedule all the social media posts for that coming week. I've been experimenting with what will get the most traction as well as how to amplify people's voices. For example, Into Games has been working with a lot of industry professionals to host panels at WASD. I ensured each creator had their own post in order to maximise sharing potential as well as highlight that they're working with us (to our own network).
In the next few months, I will be starting to create videos with our existing content. I love video editing and I think this will be a great chance for me to learn things as I edit. I want to create bite-sized videos to help people learn about the industry and find their perfect job.
Sprint Coordinator
I recently was the Sprint Coordinator for the sprint course 'Setting Up Your Indie Games Studio' with Rami Ismail.
This was an incredible experience, I was able to work with Rami and other industry professionals to deliver a really informative programme in 3 weeks.
This role involved wearing multiple hats -
- Host/facilitator during live sessions, ensuring things ran smoothly and keeping communication between Rami and the cohort such as during the Q&A.
- Community manager for the sprint Discord server. Here they could ask questions, interact with each other/the sprint leaders, and post their work for feedback. I'd also send near daily updates, reminders and announcements to keep everyone on track.
- General admin/coordinator. There was a lot of admin involved as a sprint coordinator, pretty much every day I'd send an email with information and reminders to the cohort. I'd also keep track of attendance, set up the Zoom calls, keep the e-learning portal updated, download all recorded sessions, and pass on any feedback to the Into Games team.
